Merengue
Merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic. Merengue
originated with the African slaves in the French colonies of Saint Dominic. It is
a dance suitable for beginners due to the easy-to-learn steps and the
impressive but easy dance moves. The uplifting songs of Merengue and the
intense beat of the music wins everyone over!
Bachata
Bachata is a form of Latin music and dance that originated in the countryside
and rural neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic. It is a sensual dance with
relatively easy steps but with a lot of movement.
Salsa
Salsa has its roots in Cuba. In our school we teach Cuban Salsa as well as
Rueda. Salsa is a dance full of vivacity, twists, dance moves and whimsicality
in a fast and enjoyable rhythm!
Kizomba
Kizomba is an African dance with roots in Angola, an old Portuguese colony.
A modern and very sensual touch was added by the younger generations to
the traditional dances semba and zouk, resulting in the birth of the sensual
dance, Kizomba. It is a dance that is performed with the partner very close but
not tight and is danced very softly, relatively slowly. It looks like a mixture of
Argentine tango, Bachata and Merengue is danced to sensual music
combined with various electronic percussions.
